If your kid is currently obsessed with dinosaurs and you are running out of ways to keep them entertained during the school holidays, here is a solid option. The Mornington Library is hosting a dinosaur diorama session where children aged 5 to 12 can build their own miniature prehistoric scene and then take it home to terrorise the cat or display proudly on a shelf. It is free, but you do need to book because otherwise they might run out of plastic ferns and little rubber raptors. The whole thing runs from 3pm to 4pm on Monday the 29th of June 2026, which is conveniently after lunch and before the witching hour.
The library is at Vancouver Street in Mornington, so if you live within driving distance you have no excuse. Just be prepared for the inevitable conversation about whether pterodactyls are actually dinosaurs or not. Also, if your child is younger than five or older than twelve, sorry, you will have to find something else to do. Maybe dig a hole in the backyard and pretend it is a fossil excavation. But for the right age group, this is a good way to spend an hour without anyone crying or losing a tooth.
